Dr. Carlos Portela, a former doctoral student of Professor Dennis Kochmann (jointly advised with Professor Julia R. Greer at Caltech) will join the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering in the fall of 2020. New route for the inverse design of metamaterials
By introducing a new class of non-periodic cellular metamaterials, coined "spinodoid" architectures, as well as by deploying a new data-driven approach of machine learning, we have created a new route for the inverse design of materials with optimized mechanical properties and applications, e.g., in artificial bone.
