Lisa Latussek has been honored with the NAFEMS DACH Student Award for her exceptional Master’s thesis completed at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) under the supervision of Dr. Philipp Kinon and Prof. Peter Betsch. The award recognizes outstanding student contributions in the fields of numerical engineering and simulation, and Lisa’s work stood out among submissions from across the DACH region.

Shashank Saxena has been awarded first place at the 16th ECCOMAS PhD Olympiad during the World Congress of Computational Mechanics (WCCM), held this year in Munich. His selection for the Olympiad followed SWICCOMAS naming his dissertation the best PhD thesis in Computational and Applied Mechanics in Switzerland for 2025.

Mathieu Brodmann has been awarded with the 3rd place at the Michael Sutton International Student Paper Competition at the 2026 annual conference of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM).

We are pleased to share that our teaching innovation project “Increasing the Dynamics in Dynamics” was selected as a finalist for the KITE Award 2026, ETH Zurich’s distinction for outstanding and forward‑looking teaching initiatives.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Shashank Saxena, recipient of the SWICCOMAS Prize 2026 for his exceptional doctoral research in atomistic computational methods and engineering sciences. This prestigious award recognizes the originality, depth, and impact of his work at the intersection of atomistic modeling and materials engineering.

On 22 October 2025, Li Zheng successfully defended her doctoral thesis titled “Data‑driven modeling and generative design of architected materials.” Her work marks an important contribution to the rapidly evolving intersection of computational engineering, mechanics of materials, and machine learning.

We are happy to announce that Shashank defended his thesis “A Finite-temperature Atomistic Framework for Mass Transport in Metallic Alloys” on October 3, 2025.

We warmly congratulate Miguel Spinola Fandila on successfully defending his doctoral thesis “Finite-temperature quasistatic atomistics from Gaussian phase packets: application to grain boundaries and glasses.”
