Romik Khajehtourian wins the Most Watched Video Competition
Congratulations to Dr. Romik Khajehtourian whose contribution to the Virtual Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science was the most-watched presentation in the category "Metamaterials & architected solids & manufacturing".
Siddhant Kumar joins TU Delft faculty
Congratulations to Dr. Siddhant Kumar from the Kochmann/De Lorenzis Groups on his appointment as Assistant Professor of Material Science and Engineering at TU Delft as of February 2021. We wish Prof. Kumar success for his research in machine learning, inverse design, computational mechanics and material science!
Carlos Portela joins MIT faculty
Dr. Carlos Portela, a former doctoral student of Professor Dennis Kochmann (jointly advised with Professor Julia R. Greer at Caltech) will join the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering in the fall of 2020. Congratulations, Carlos, and the best of luck and success for your new job!
New route for the inverse design of metamaterials
By introducing a new class of non-periodic cellular metamaterials, coined "spinodoid" architectures, as well as by deploying a new data-driven approach of machine learning, we have created a new route for the inverse design of materials with optimized mechanical properties and applications, e.g., in artificial bone.
ETH Medal for Jan-Hendrik Bastek
Congratulations to Jan-Hendrik Bastek for receiving an ETH Medal for his Master's thesis, which he composed in the Mechanics & Materials Lab (supervised by Raphael Glaesener and Prof. Dennis Kochmann) on the topic of modeling viscoelastic truss metamaterials.
